What Are Fire Barrier Systems?
If fire insulation is not applied within expansion joints, these joints may create a chimney effect, facilitating the spread of fire. Fire barrier systems are used in building expansion joints to prevent the passage of smoke and flames between adjacent spaces and to ensure the continuity of fire-resistant systems even when joint movement occurs. Fire-resistant sealants are used for small expansion gaps, while stone wool and fiberglass ropes are applied in expansion joints ranging between 5–10 cm. A liquid fire insulation material is then applied over these systems to prevent smoke leakage. For joints larger than 10 cm, systems composed of fire-resistant fabrics combined with thermal blankets and ceramic wool layers are utilized. The fabrics used in these systems are silica-based textiles containing 96% SiO² and are resistant to temperatures up to 1000°C. These systems are tested and certified according to EN 13501 and maintain their fire resistance performance for a specified duration, even under joint movement capacity of ±50%. The testing standard applied is EN 1363-1:2012. Fire barriers used for floor applications are generally thicker and contain more intermediate layers compared to those used in wall and ceiling applications. One of the most critical issues encountered in stone wool applications—namely, the displacement or falling of the wool due to joint movement—is eliminated in these systems, as fire blankets are mechanically fixed to the expansion joint edges. Our products, tested and approved by leading laboratories in Türkiye, provide 60 minutes of fire resistance and maintain integrity for up to 180 minutes. These performance durations offer significant advantages to building occupants, emergency response teams, and property owners during a fire incident. Most importantly, they help protect human life without panic, enable faster and more effective intervention, and reduce structural damage and financial loss. Rather than being an issue addressed only after an incident occurs, fire safety is a critical structural factor that must be considered and resolved during the design phase. With the advantages it offers, Arfen Fire Solutions enhance building safety by being applied beneath expansion joint coverings, creating a concealed yet highly effective fire protection shield within structures.

Horizontal Fire Blanket
The Horizontal Fire Blanket is a high-performance, lightweight, 7-layer fiberglass fire blanket with special fire-resistant fabric, designed to prevent fire and smoke passage with in building expansion joints, as well as to block heat transfer and flame propagation to the cold side. It can be used in horizontal joints ranging from 100 mm to 300 mm and, if required, in vertical applications. It provides 60 minutes of fire resistance and 180 minutes of integrity.

Vertical Fire Blanket
The Vertical Fire Blanket is designed to prevent flame, smoke, and high heat transfer through building expansion joints for a specified period. Its 8-layer internal structure, composed of special non-combustible fabric and fiberglass material, offers a lightweight, high-performance, and easy-to-install system. Designed for wall and ceiling applications with joint widths between 100 mm and 300 mm, this product provides 20 minutes of fire resistance and 120 minutes of integrity.

Fire Insulation Rope
Composed of stone wool wrapped with glass yarn, the Fire Insulation Rope is installed into expansion joints by compressing it by at least 33%. The rope diameter is selected according to the joint width. It can be applied horizontally and vertically in joint widths ranging from 10 mm to 150 mm and provides up to 240 minutes of integrity.

Multi-Layer Fire Stop Joint Filler
This is a multi-layer, water-based acrylic fire stop joint filler applied by roller or spray, either internally or externally, over stone wool. It offers 25% movement capability of the applied joint and provides up to 2 hours of fire resistance.

Acrylic-Based Fire Sealant
An acrylic-based fire stop sealant that provides movement capability in fire-resistant joints and sealing applications. It is free from silicone, halogens, asbestos, and solvents.
